You can use the Mergent Market Atlas database (available only for UAGC students & faculty) to find useful financial data to compare industry peers, or competing companies in the same industry.

Annual Income Statement

You can use the Company module at the top of the page to search for a company.  Once you have selected your company, select the Financials subpage to locate income statements for your chosen company. Choose from different kinds of financial statements in the menu to the left of the screen. Use the annual income statement to locate values such as gross profit, operating margin, and net income.

By selecting the financials subpage under your chosen company, you can select income statement under the list of different financial statements to the left. The income statement includes data such as Total Revenue, Gross Profit, Operating Income, Net Income, and more.

Industry Averages: Gross Profit Ratio, Operating Margin Ratio, Net Income Margin Ratio

Navigate to the Analysis subpage under the profile of your selected company to access the Industry Peers Profitability report, and use this report to calculate industry averages for ratios such as gross profit ratio, operating margin ratio, and net income margin ratio.  Use the Export function to transfer the information to Excel, where you can average the peer values for each ratio to determine the industry averages.

The option for Industry Peers appears at the bottom left of the Analysis subpage for your chosen company. Select Profitabilty from the Report Type menu at the top of the table. Gross Margin %, Operating Margin %, and Net Profit Margin % for your chosen company's industry peers appear in the table. The option to Export to Excel is available at the top right of the table.

Industry Averages: Inventory Turnover

From the Industry Peers section of the Analysis subpage of your chosen company, you can switch the Report Type to Efficiency in order to calculate industry averages for the inventory turnover ratio.

Under the Industry Peers report in Analysis subpage for your chosen company, change report type to efficiency to view the Inventory Turnover values for your company's main competitors.

Industry Averages: Current Ratio, Quick Ratio, Debt-to-Equity Ratio, Times Interest Earned Ratio

From the Industry Peers section of the Analysis subpage of your chosen company, you can switch the Report Type to Financial Strength in order to calculate industry averages for current ratio, quick ratio, debt-to-equity ratio, times interest earned ratio. (Note: In Market Atlas, "times interest earned" is called "interest coverage".)

By changing the report type to Financial Strength, you can access the current ratio, quick ratio, long term debt/equity, and interest coverage

Note: Values such as Long Term Debt and Total Equity for your chosen company can be found under the Financials subpage of your company profile in the Balance Sheet report.
