With short stories like those you are working on within ENG125 that aren't that well known, you will need to search for articles about the literary themes within them rather than find articles on the story itself. Then you would connect the discussion about the themes in the articles to whichever story you are writing about. Here are some suggested search terms for each story:
“What You Pawn, I Will Redeem”
- Native American literature, Sherman Alexie, antiheroes in literature, homelessness in literature
"Piropo"
- Mexican American literature, American immigrant experience in literature, Code-switching in literature, Latino literature, Latina literature, Latinx literature
"A Worn Path"
- Phoenix Jackson, African American experience in literature, Eudora Welty, Southern literature
"Donald Duk and the White Monsters"
- Asian American literature, Frank Chin, San Francisco multicultural literature, American immigrant experience in literature
Some more general literature themes you could try include:
- Outcast characters in literature
- First person narrators and cultural conflict
- Class conflict in literature
- Cultural identity (or difference) in literature
- Code-switching in literature
- Setting and character identity in literature
- Setting and conflict in literature
These can all be searched for within the library by taking the following steps:
1. Open the Library OneSearch Advanced Search feature by clicking just below the search box on the library homepage.

2. Then enter the concepts you want to search for, one concept per box. Then click search.
If you still have questions you can chat in real time with a librarian here.
